外貿信件中“請”字的英譯

在漢語外貿信件中，凡是向對方提出某種要求，出於禮貌往往都得用上個“請”字，因此，“請”字可以說是中文外貿信件中的最常用詞之一。

說到漢語裡的“請”字，凡懂點英語的人，都會聯想到“please”。隨手翻開漢英或英漢詞典，“請”與“please”也似乎是絕對相等之詞。

但翻譯並不如此簡單，如果不知變通，或圖省力，次“對號入座”，定出差錯。

高明的譯者，必是依據具體的情景，採用不同的詞彙和句法手段。

請看下面各種不同情況下“請”字的譯法：

1. 使用“please”

Please let us know your delivery date and conditions of payment。

請告我方交貨日期與付款要求。

2. 使用“kindly”

Kindly send us 2 Bills of Lading by separate posts， together with your draft at 30 days for acceptance。

請將兩份提單由不同郵班寄來，同時開來30天匯票以便承兌。

3. 使用“be appreciated”

Your prompt attention to this order would be highly appreciated。

請從速辦理本定單為荷。

4. 使用“It would be appreciated if you would...”結構

It would be appreciated if you would send us an illustrated catalog of your manufactures。

請寄貴公司產品圖解目錄一份為荷。

5. 使用 “We shall appreciate it if you will...” 結構

We shall appreciate it if you will make us a firm offer for 50 tons of peanut。

請報50噸花生實盤。

6. 使用“We shall(should）be grateful/obliged if you can (will/could/would)..”結構

We shall be grateful / obliged if you can provide us with all possible information on your market。

請告你方市場詳情。

7. 使用“疑問句”

This is our design for the packing。 Could you possibly give it to the manufacturers for their reference？

這是我們的包裝設計，請轉給廠方，供他們參考。

8. 使用“主動語態”

According to the terns agreed upon， we have drawn on you at sight against shipment through Bank of China here。 We would ask you to protect the draft upon presentation。

根據雙方協議條款，我們已開具了該批船貨的即期匯票，透過此處中國銀行轉去，請見票即付。

9. 使用“被動語態”

You‘re kindly requested to exert your best effort to wind up the long-standing issue at an early date。

懇請你方盡力早日解決這一懸而未決的問題。

10.根據上下文省譯

Awaiting your imnediate reply。

請即復。（信尾套語）

11.使用“wish”

We wish to draw your attention to the fact that our clients are in urgent need of the contracted goods。

敬請注意，我方客戶急需合同貨物。

以上“請”字的許多譯例可以說明幾個問題：

一是“請”字在不同的上下文中，其意思有細微區別，如要求的程度強弱，表達方式的直接與間接，措辭或句式的正式與否，翻譯前須悉心領會；

二是“請”字的適應範圍很大，英譯漢時，許多客套話，不必照字面直譯，可考慮能否譯成漢語的“請”字；三是“請”字的英譯，不必千篇一律。
