Grange’s poem began in the winemaking season of 1950。 It was hot and dry in that spring and summer and the gentle sea wind and mountain wind of the canyon was perfect so that it was a good year to brew vintage wine。 Winemaker Max Schubert just came back from a trip to France and influenced by Bordeaux winemakers， he wanted to brew “Australia’s best wine that is kept for at least 20 years”。 He put it into practice and created a revolutionary brewing technology with nearly harsh military standards。 In 1951， the new wine came into being。 But the vintage wine that was auctioned to 52211 Australian dollars in 2004 was without any commercial sales in that year。 During the seven winemaking seasons from 1950 to 1957， Max strived for his dream。 However， when he took the wine to the headquarters for review and planed for lot production， his wine was disliked and prohibited producing again。 In the next three winemaking seasons， Grange became Max’s secret。 Why the wine was not appreciated by the tasters at that time was partially because Australians love drinking strong Shirley and Potter。 But he believed that people’s tastes were changing quietly。
