This is the first time to hold the winter Olympic Games in the history of China， and both Beijing and Zhangjiakou are the host cities。 Besides， it is the third time that China hosts the Olympic Games after the Beijing Olympic Games and the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games。

Beijing thus becomes the first city in Olympic history that hosts both the summer Olympic Games and the winter Olympic Games。
