英語語法專題：分數詞並不難，只需記住這幾點

分數詞的構成及作用

（一）分數詞構成法

分數詞由基數詞和序數詞構成，分子用基數詞，分母用序數詞。分子大於1時，做分母的序數詞要用複數形式。

1/4 one-fourth

5/9 five-nines

2/3 two thirds

3 2/5 three and two-fifths

7/12 seven-twelfths

47 3/8 forty-seven and three-eighths

此外還有下面表示法：

1/2 a（one） half

1/4 a（one） quarter

3/4 three-quarters

2 1/4 two and one quarter

1 1/2 one and a half

7 3/4 seven and three quarters

比較複雜的分數讀法如下：

23/9 twenty-three over nine

76/92 seventy-six over ninety-two

應該注意的是：表達分數有時基數詞與序數詞之間需要加連字元“-”，有時也可不加。“三分之二的學生”可寫作two-thirds of the students或two thirds of the students

（二）分數在句中的作用

1）作主語

Half

a day has passed，but he hasn‘t finished it。

已經過去半天，但他還沒有完成。

The other

third

of the black population live in poverty。

另外三分之一的黑人生活在貧困之中。

2）作動詞賓語或介詞賓語

Give

a quarter

of the pie to each of them。

給他們每人四分之一的餡餅。

他們佔總人口的七分之一。

3）作表語

The crop that year was only

one-third

of the usual amount。

4）作定語

the thickness of a human hair。

它相當於人類髮絲的十二分之一那麼細。

The mass of an electron is

1/1850

that of a hydrogen atom。

電子的質量只是氫原子質量的1/1850。

It produces power at 1/8 the cost in a thermal power plant。

它的發電成本只是熱電成本的八分之一。

5）作狀語

China is

one-sixth

larger than the United States。

中國比美國大六分之一。

This substance reacts

one-tenth

as fast as the other one。

這種物質的反應速度是另外一種物質的十分之一。

小數的讀法和用法

（一）小數的讀法

6。4 - six point four

0。8 - zero （naught） point eight

0。05 - naught point naught five 或zero point zero five

0。726 - naught point seven two six 或zero point seven two six

12。409 - twelve point four zero nine

709。06 - seven hundred and nine point zero six

（二）小數主要作用作定語

Our grain output is now 2。4 times that of 1980。

我們現在的糧食產量是1980年的2。4倍。

Its total output value was up 4。7 times。

它的總產量提高了4。7倍。

Its capability was 7。3 times as great as in 1985。

它的生產能力是1985年的7。3倍。

百分數的基本用法

百分數由percent表示，可以在句中作：

1）作主語

Over

eighty percent

of all families own a television。

百分之八十以上的家庭都有電視機。

of the pupils are absent today。

今天有百分之十的學生缺席。

What

percent

of the population can read ？

能識字的人佔了總人口的百分之幾？

2）作動詞賓語或介詞賓語

They constitute

eight percent

of the population。

他們佔總人口的百分之八。

The price of bread has gone up by

forty percent

in two years。

麵包價格兩年漲了百分之四十。

The bank charges interest at

twelve percent

。

銀行利息為百分之十二。

3）作定語

Leave the waitress a

fifteen percent

tip。

給女招待留下百分之十五的小費。

There is a

ten percent

service charge。

要收百分之十的服務費。

I paid him

four percent

interest。

我付給他百分之四的利息。

4）作狀語

I think it‘s

ninety percent

probable。

我看這有百分之九十的可能性。

I’m not

a hundred percent

convinced myself。

我沒有百分之百的信心。

Prices have risen

six percent

in the past year。

過去一年裡物價上漲了百分之六。

5）作表語

12 is 1 percent of 1，200。

12是1，200的百分之一。
