為什麼說“Time isn't enough”是錯的?

有兩個原因，一是客觀原因，時間不是實物，不會不夠，只是我們覺得它不夠被我們用而已；二是語法，只有句子中主語是代名詞的時候，enough才能做補語。比如 it/there/that/this，enough可以直接出現在後面，比如“That’s enough。夠了”。

例：

兩天時間恐怕不夠我們遊覽所有名勝古蹟。

I am afraid two day‘s time is not enough for us to see all the place of interest。

enough到底怎麼用？

enough means ’as much as necessary‘。 It can be used with an adjective， an adverb， a verb or a noun。 It can also act as a pronoun。

enough的意思是“足夠的”。它可以與形容詞、副詞、動詞或名詞連用。它也可以作為代詞。

With adjectives and adverbs

與形容詞和副詞連用時

enough comes after adjectives and adverbs。

enough放在形容詞或副詞後

I’m not tall enough to reach the top shelf。

我不夠高，夠不到架子的頂層。

Your marks are good enough to study engineering at university。

你的成績很好，足以在大學裡學習工程學。

I couldn‘t write quickly enough and I ran out of time。

With verbs

與動詞連用時

enough comes after verbs。

enough在動詞後

I make sure I drink enough during the day。

With nouns

enough comes before nouns。

As a pronoun

enough can also be used without a noun。

即使沒有名詞也可以出現

I‘ll get some more chairs。 There aren’t enough。

A： Do you want more coffee？ B： No， I‘ve had enough， thanks。

你想要的再來點咖啡嗎？不，我有的就夠了，謝謝。

We know what the noun is because of the context。

With an adjective and a noun

與形容詞和名詞連用時

When enough is used with an adjective and a noun， two positions are possible but the meaning changes。

當enough與名詞和形容詞一起使用時，有兩個可能的位置，但是這兩個位置的意思不同

We haven’t got big enough envelopes。

我們的信封不夠大。

We haven‘t got enough big envelopes。

我們的大信封還不夠多。

When enough is after the adjective （big enough envelopes）， it describes the adjective – the envelopes are too small。 When enough is before the adjective （enough big envelopes）， it describes the noun phrase – we have some big envelopes， but we need more。

當enough在形容詞後（big enough envelopes），它描述的是形容詞——信封太小。當形容詞（enough big envelopes））前面有enough時，它描述的是名詞短語——我們有一些大信封，但是我們需要更多。

enough of

We normally only use enough of when it is followed by a determiner or a pronoun （a/an/the， this/that， my/your/his， you/them， etc。）。

There isn’t enough of that bread to make sandwiches for everyone。
