aid 和 aide 形似且意相近

有些英語單詞之間僅差一個字母，但因為詞根不一樣，意思就差很多，例如 adverse 和 averse，discreet 和 discrete 等；有些英語單詞有相同的詞根，那麼意思很接近，例如 adopted 和 adoptive 等，還有 aid 和 aide.

一、aid

1、作名詞

A、意為“幫助，援助，助手，輔助物”，例如：

She went to the aid of a man trapped in his car。

她去幫助一個被困在車裡的人。

A woman in the street saw that he was in trouble and came to his aid。

街上有個女人看到他有麻煩，就來幫助他。

B、意為“援助；救援物資；援助款項”，例如：

The Vatican has agreed to donate $80，000 in emergency aid to countries affected by the war。

梵蒂岡同意向受戰爭影響的國家捐贈8萬美元的緊急援助。

About a fifth of the country‘s income is in the form of overseas aid。

該國大約五分之一的收入來自外國/海外援助。

2、作動詞，意為“幫助，援助”，例如：

Huge projects designed to aid poorer countries can sometimes do more harm than good。

旨在援助貧窮國家的大型專案有時弊大於利。

His excuse for drinking brandy is that it’s said to aid digestion。

他喝白蘭地的理由是據說白蘭地有助於消化。

二、aide 作名詞，意為“助手”，尤其指從政者的助手，例如：

The president travels with a large retinue of aides and bodyguards。

總統與大批助手和保鏢隨行。

He was assassinated by a cabal of aides within his own regime。

他被自己政權內的一個幫派暗殺了。

The prime minister instructed his aides not to speak to the press about the matter。

首相指示他的助手們不要向新聞界談論此事。

A former aide has published a book about his experiences in the White House。

一位前助手出版了一本關於他在白宮的經歷的書。

三、兩者的區別及記憶方法

區別：

aid 既可以作動詞，也可以作名詞，而 aide 只能作名詞。

記憶方法：

相比於 aid，aide 多了一個字母 e，相當於多了一個助手，因為助手是名詞，所以 aide 是名詞。
